The paper presents an empirical analysis of natives’ and immigrants EU: Intra-EU Migrants. There were 50 million immigrants in the EU-27 member states in 2012, making persons born outside the country in which they were living 10 percent of EU residents. Two-thirds or 34 million of these immigrants were not citizens of the EU countries in which they were living, so seven percent of EU residents were foreign citizens. But the Covid-19 epidemic could also become an opportunity to reconsider business models, EU cohesion strategies and immigration policies. At this point, it is almost impossible to anticipate how migration policies in Europe will evolve in the long run. Until now, it almost entirely focused on attracting high-skilled workers to the EU. 2019-08-16 · Using a network approach, we investigate the determinants of intra-EU migration flows between all 28 EU member states in the years 2001, 2005, 2008 and 2013.

In fact, the two consecutive expansions of the European Union (EU) in 2004 and 2007 generated one of the largest mass movements of people in Europe since World War II ( Johns, 2014 ). Intra-EU bilateral migration stocks increased 28% on average after the implementation of the free movement of people. Since intra-EU migration between 1960 and 2015 doubled (see Figure 1) our results suggest that free movement explains around one-quarter of the total migration stock changes in this period.
